Meet Ms Adina Quraisha who taught 50 kids how to make a snake! This workshop was held on the breezy balcony at the gallery. Kids had a roaring good time and, took home a crafted, colourful snake!
Here’s how they did it!
Items needed:
- A piece of cardboard about 50cm by 50cm
- A pair of scissors, pencil and large brush
- Lots of old newspapers
- Glue
- Poster colours
Let’s begin.
Step 1.
Take the cardboard and draw a big ‘S’ like this.
Step 2.
Take your scissors and cut out the ‘S’, like this.
Step 3.
Crumple up pieces of old newspapers (one sheet at a time, length wise) so that you have long pieces of crumpled newspaper.
Step 4. Glue the crumpled newspaper to your ‘S’. Leave to dry.
Step 5. When the glue has dried, you can use smaller bits of paper to glue on top of the crumpled paper to smoothen out the surface. Leave to dry.
Step 6. Now it’s time to paint! Here are some samples of animal prints to guide you, but you can paint the snake any pattern you like. When all the surface of your snake has been painted, leave to dry again.
Step 7. Now for the eyes! Take a dab of white paint and dot one end of your ‘S’.
Your snake is finissssshed…. You can make as many snakes you like, and even make a snake sculpture for your home.
Enjoy making your snake!
