Hello, friends! I am Muhammad Imran Mohd. Yusni from Ekhlass International School, Terengganu. I am 7 years old. I am thrilled to be chosen as a BlueHyppo Kidsz Reporter and will gladly share with you my school and neighbourhood activities.

In conjunction with our school’s Earth Day, the EIS Earth Warriors joined forces to clean up the beach, fronting the South China Sea, near our school. We were all dressed in our new Earth Warriors t-shirts. The day before, we had fun painting our own t-shirts and Earth Day banner.

At the beach, we were given work gloves and trash bags. We also used rakes and wheel barrows to clean up the beach.

We combed 1 km. of the beach for trash. There surely were lots of trash! We collected nearly 100kg of trash including fishing gear, glass & plastic bottles, plastic bags, containers, food wrappers, tin cans, polystyrene foam containers, chunks of logs and even syringes. Did you know that these thrash kill thousands of turtles, fish and sea birds? Sea turtles get entangled in discarded fishing nets. Fish and sea birds become poisoned from eating rubbish.

Rubbish also makes the beach less enjoyable for us. I wouldn’t want to have a picnic and swim at a dirty beach. We might also cut ourselves on broken glass and tin cans left on the beach.

After much sweat, we had a great sate picnic. Before leaving the beach, we made sure that we did not leave any trash behind.
