Do you know how big one football field is? According to calculations, it is 120m by 90m. If your room is 3m by 3m (roughly 10 feet by 10 feet), then 1200 rooms make up the size of one football field. Wow! That’s huge, isn’t it? But why is this important?

Can you imagine forests the size of 36 football fields are being torn down, each minute?

Yes, the equivalent of 36 football fields are being stripped from the world’s forests each minute, the environmental group World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) said in a statement released here on Thursday.

It said that by 2020, the organisation is determined to slow down deforestation by 40%. That’s about 14 football fields, each minute.  If deforestation is still going on at this speed for the next ten years, the planet’s health will be severely threatened.

A Europe-based sports shoe retail chain Footlocker has answered sneakers fans’ prayers by promising the most obsessed among them 65free pairs. To enter its new contest ‘It’s a Sneaker Thing,’ all Europe-based sneaker fans need to do is log on to the sneaker store’s YouTube channel, upload a video documenting their ‘obsession’ and then just hope their life qualifies as the most sneaker-devoted of all.

Footlocker has outlined that it is looking for “sneaker enthusiasm beyond reason” and has already posted videos to inspire contestants. The “funniest and craziest” clips submitted will be narrowed down and then judged by a panel of celebrities, and the winner will walk away with 65 pairs of new sneakers from the store’s stocks (handed out over the next five years).

YouTubers have already been busy uploading their videos, with some showing off alarming amounts of shoes. An official end date for the competition has not yet been announced.
